For independent crimes, two Nelson County, Virginia residents who may never have met each other—Linda Campbell Blackwell and Randy Allen Taylor—living a mere 3.2 miles apart (less as the crow flies) from each other—have been arrested a short two months apart.
Randy Taylor is incarcerated for the suspected abduction of Alexis Tiara Murphy on August 3, 2013. Two months later, Alexis remains missing. More and more local residents are saying Alexis is gone for good.
Linda Blackwell is incarcerated for felony murder, arson, and obtaining money by false pretenses in the 2009 house fire that cost the life of James Sr. Shelton. Mr. Shelton did not die from smoke inhalation, but died as a result of burns.
Taylor is suspected of being involved in the disappearance of at least one other girl, though evidence has not been presented to substantiate the claim. Time will tell if the charges grow in scope and severity.
Blackwell is associated with a total of three fires at the same location, more than most persons of sound mine are willing to admit can be a coincidence. Time will also tell if there will be additional charges in her case.
There is one thing that is certain: these events have saddened many of their neighbors and induced a feeling of fear into not-a-few hearts of Nelson County residents. A certain innocence has disappeared from the atmosphere surrounding this rural community.
